May
the grace and peace of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ be
upon you. It is one thing to just talk about praise and it is
another to actually praise Him. The following exercise is
taken from Dr. Michael Youssef’s book “Empowered by
Praise”. This practical study on praise and reflection on
the Names of God will tremendously help you grasp who God
really is. So I invite you to this exercise with me.
Praise
calls God by Name (Hebrews
13:15)
Studying
the different names God used for Himself helps us understand
more about His character. Take time to think about times that
you have seen God act in accordance with each of His names in
your life.
Reflecting
on praise
1.
From the following list of God’s names reflect on
which name or names is/are most meaningful to you. Choose one
of God’s names and praise Him for being who He is in your
life.
-
Jehovah-Jireh, God Our Provider
-
Jehovah-Rapha, God Our Healer
-
Jehovah-Nissi, God Our Banner
-
Jehovah-Mekaddish, God who makes us Holy
-
Jehovah-Shalom, God Our Peace
-
Jehovah-Rohi, God Our Shepherd
-
Jehovah-Tsidkenu, God Our Righteousness
-
Jehovah-Shammah, God who is present always
2.
Identify specific ways in which God has manifested
Himself to you.
Ask
yourself:
-
In what ways has God provided for me as Jehovah-Jireh?
-
In what ways has God healed me as Jehovah-Rapha?
-
In what ways has God protected me or led me to victory
as Jehovah-Nissi?
-
In what ways has God made me holy, acting as Jehovah-Mekaddish?
-
In what ways has God given me peace as Jehovah-Shalom?
-
In what ways has God manifested Himself as my Good
Shepherd, Jehovah-Rohi?
-
In what ways has God strengthened me to walk in
righteousness as Jehovah-Tsidkenu?
-
In what ways have I felt God’s presence with me
“always” as Jehovah-Shammah?
